These blog things are interesting:
On the one hand a great many are an extension of vanity publishing, as someone who simply chases the technology related blogs around I hadn't quite grasped how widespread a phenomenon this had become in terms of the background and subject matter of those who participate.
And on the other hand, even at the personal level, there are a fair number of people writing stuff that's worth reading (at least in the technology sector) - more than that, a lot (not me!) are people who appear to have made a serious contribution or have some influence over the toys I play with every day...
I think that most of us have a need to be able to discuss the world around us - to be able to sit in the pub and let forth at length about subject which we may or, as often as not, may not be well informed. I've done this on Cix (a UK based conferencing system) briefly on usenet - but the readers were poor and one drowns in the noise - and in a few mailing lists. Blogs seem to be the next place, especially where the "outpourings" of the authors do not appear in splendid isolation but are read and discussed by others in the space.
So I'm going to play for a while, see what I can produce and whether its worth pursuing and from there - who knows.
